Texas Mall Mass Shooter Kills 8 Including 3 Children

The Texas Mall shooter quickly darted into the Allen, TX town outlet mall Saturday afternoon (May 6, 2023). All dressed up in tactical gear bent on causing as much pain as possible he started randomly shooting his AR-15 assault-style weapon. Additionally armed with a rifle, gun, and plenty of ammo he managed to kill eight people including a 3-year-old and his parents, two sisters, ages 8 and 11 and critically wounding their mother. At least seven others were reported wounded. The shooter was quickly confronted by a police officer in the area who managed to shoot him dead before more bloodshed ensued. The mass shooting is reported to be the seventh in Texas! A state that truly believes in its 2nd Amendment Rights. Governor Abbott was slow in making a statement regarding the mass shooting. The Allen town district area Republican Representative Keith Self in an interview with CNN seemed to deflect as mass shooters being terrorists and usually gang related! He also deflected to Chicago’s high crime rate. Now, doesn’t that sound a little irresponsible and immature? Representative Self also stated that our thoughts and prayers needed to be considered for the families involved and the community. He went on to say that if you did not believe in thoughts and prayers, you did not believe in God the Almighty has the power over our lives! He was asked repeatedly what action did he plan on taking up in Congress but went on to stick with “our thoughts and prayers and let’s not politize this!” We are human every one of us and we sometimes stubbornly stick to what we know or refuse to acknowledge change or just simply acquiesce to differences. There have been over 200 shootings nationwide – lots of thoughts and prayers and we continue to have them. The good book states that we need to help ourselves – perhaps we need some legislation. The shooter was reported to have bought the weapon in a private sale. Perhaps if the seller and buyer would have been required to register the transaction destiny may have taken a different route and dissuaded either or both on the transaction. The Army discharged the shooter for mental health reasons perhaps the US Army should have taken more care to provide mental health services or reported this to his local authorities if mental health and owning a weapon are to be tracked. Recently, the Atlanta shooter who was formerly a Coast Guard member killed one and wounded several. He had a weapon, not an assault weapon but a gun. He had been discharged because of mental health reasons as well. Should the federal government take the first step and be proactive in mental health concerns especially when they are a threat to the local community?
