Spectrum News was reporting a story today of a shooting that occurred in September 2022 killing one man and wounding a woman. They were traveling as a small group of migrants near Sierra Blanca located in western Texas. The group had just found water in a desert area and were drinking when a truck pulled up nearby. The group of eleven migrants ran to hide when the two men in the truck stepped out with a rifle. Yelled obscenities to them and eventually fired hitting a young man in the head and killing him instantly. The second round was fired and that hit the woman in the stomach. The two men then got back in the truck and drove off. The woman and the group walked another mile when they were able to call the police. Identification of the truck led the vehicle to La Salle Corrections which runs the detention facility nearby. The vehicle was assigned to Mike Sheppard who worked in a civilian capacity at the sheriff’s office. Later identified with him was Mark Sheppard, yes, two brothers out to commit a hate crime against vulnerable migrants. Mark Sheppard by the way serves as the Warden for the West Texas Detention Center which has been riddled with complaints of sexual abuse, beatings, and racial tensions at the facility but had managed to get away with his kind of Texas justice.
The woman shot has since recovered and showed her healed wounds that have deformed her torso and spoke of her friend who was shot in the head. One of the brothers has been charged with manslaughter but is that the right charge for the two who went out on a kill ride? The two in their affidavits initially stated they were out duck hunting (the desert!), but later to change their story to hunting for birds and once again to hunting for javelina (wild boar) in the area. They also stated the shooting occurred around midnight. A photo was taken of the shooting victim’s stomach wound by one of her companions that clearly shows daylight. They have both been fired from their positions but remain free! Their attorneys claim their innocence and doubt the migrants’ stated facts.
- I call it Texas justice because this happens too often in Texas and rarely gets reported and the judicial system finds a way to set the white assailants free. Seems like there is a reward for shooting, maiming, or killing a person that is not of the same race, ethnicity, or belief. In 1975 my middle brother at 16 was driving one of the Chinese cooks home at 1100 pm after work. In a neighborhood that was known to be very racial (Leon Valley in San Antonio). What made him guilty was the fact he was driving a 1972 Sports Torino which mom had bought for him. The Leon Valley police stopped him, told the Chinese cook to take a hike, and proceeded to interrogate my brother about the car. My brother simply said it was a gift from his mother. The police would not accept his response even after checking the title documentation. Five grown men proceeded to beat him senselessly. They then dragged him to jail and charged him with “assault” on five police officers. The charges were later dropped but of course, my brother was traumatized, and my parents ended up paying the hospital bill for his broken ribs as a result of the beating! My parents were told there was nothing they could do about the police assault. TEXAS JUSTICE!
