It has been reported that Justice Thomas took expensive trips and gifts worth up to $500k+ over the past decades from a Texas billionaire friend. The billionaire, Harlan Crow has been a family friend of Clarence and Ginni Thomas for decades. They have engaged in trips that included transport on a private jet, a yacht with porters and maids, a trip to New Zealand, Indonesia, water rafting, expensive trips across the country, paintings, and who knows what other perks! Justice Thomas on Friday, April 7, 2023, made a statement sounding surprised and unaccountable for accepting the gifts. The federal government has laws on accepting such lavish gifts, the perception of unethical behavior, and just plain outright wrong. All of which apply in this case. A private serviceman in the US Army is briefed on such matters early in the start of his/her career! Why shouldn’t a judge at the highest level follow these same rules and be accountable?
