Senate to Bypass Tuberville’s 9-Month Debacle

The Senate is working on bypassing Senator Tuberville’s (R-AL) nine-month standoff on approving over 400 crucial high-ranking officer appointments for the military. His position has been that the military should not be paying for the transportation of military soldiers to nearby states that favor abortion or at least some form of it. Alabama has one of the strictest abortion laws in the country. It bans abortion at any stage of a woman’s pregnancy, no exceptions for rape and incest, and will prosecute. The only exception for an abortion would be if the woman’s life is threatened. Prosecution for aiding to terminate an abortion is being challenged.

Senator Tuberville stalled many military nominations which included the Marine Corps Commandant and General Milie’s JCS replacement. That only occurred because Senator Schumer (D-NY) circumvented the process and placed the Air Force General nominee to fill the position. Senator Tuberville did not consider the nominations as a threat to national security which eventually received the criticism of many of his Republican colleagues. Interesting that Senator Tuberville considers a 6-month baby being carried across the Rio Grande a bigger threat to national security!
