On Friday, May 20, 2023, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) came on television from somewhere in the Capitol espousing that Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) had been a threat to her and aggressive the previous day on the steps of the Capitol Building. Seems like they both engaged in a healthy debate on the Capitol steps with each exchanging political banter and smiling while doing it. So, what prompted her to make such a televised media assertion? Was it a “Dog Whistle” being aware of today’s political climate and gun violence? Was she trying to sign some kind of “Hate Warrant” to her right-wing supporters against Rep. Bowman?
To backtrack on the circumstances involving this confrontation Rep. Bowman’s target had been heckling Rep. George Santos who was conducting a media interview on the steps of the Capitol when Rep. Bowman then engaged Rep. Greene who was supporting Rep. Santos in favor of impeaching President Biden. Rep. Bowman engaged in the political debate with Rep. Greene soon after the GOP house had elected to refer Rep. Santos to the Ethics Committee when they could have expulsed him based on the 13 charges the DOJ has brought against him. Rep. Santos’s case has been before the Ethics Committee since late February. All the GOP did was something akin to kicking the can down the road because you do not want to deal with it!
