Tonight is another historic night in America, with the upcoming Presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. A few weeks ago, there was concern within the Republican Party whether Trump should debate VP Harris because she had not been elected as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Trump and his surrogates made assertions that they were not following the Constitution—ugh!
It seems like there was serious stonewalling by the RNC in having Trump debate VP Harris. At that point, Trump unleashed several racial overtones against VP Harris, who is of mixed race (African American father and Indian mother). He has also demeaned her for not being intelligent, despite her accomplishments in getting through college on her own to become a DA Prosecutor and California’s Attorney General, which would typically require commitment and intelligence. On the other hand, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton evaded a State Assembly impeachment despite challenging evidence to the contrary and delayed an FBI investigation into illegal misuse of state funds for personal use. This is what I would call street smart but not necessarily intellectually gifted – nothing but a hood!
Trump continues to falsely criticize VP Harris on a number of issues, including the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021. However, he does not acknowledge that he and then-Secretary of State Pompeo orchestrated a withdrawal from Afghanistan without the involvement of the Afghans, NATO forces, or much input from our top military leaders. It’s important to remember “he knows better than the generals!” – his commentary!
