Republican Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has “defunded” Oklahoma’s PBS station. At issue is PBS programming like “Sesame Street” and ” Mr. Rogers” designed for children’s wider aspect of learning. The Governor’s comments to Fox News claim the programming is instead an “indoctrination and over-sexualization of our children.” The move comes amongst Republican resolute position against the LGBTQ movement across the country and in addition to faith-based conservative groups. PBS serves a much wider audience in Oklahoma than local programming. They are instrumental in providing state-wide weather alerts throughout the year.
Similarly, Governor DeSantis’ feud with Disney in Florida has intensified. Disney has now sued the State of Florida for reneging on previously awarded Florida property to them. The battle originated with DeSantis promoting “Don’t Say Gay” legislation into law. Disney is Florida’s largest employer and has been expanding its theme park resources over the last few years. Critical of the legislation Disney claimed that they would not make any changes to their employment culture and that Florida Republicans are instead endorsing an anti-LGBTQ culture war as well as anti-business.
- The public should weigh the Republican long-time mantra “government in our dictating our personal households but also hands-off business operations!” You hear them say one thing but do something else – whatever conveniences them!
