Hypocrisy in Full Display by Republicans

The hypocrisy of the GOP in Congress continues to baffle the public. At hand is the recent discussion and failed attempts to “expulse” the Republican Congressman George Santos (R-NY). As a reminder, Santos won a Congressional seat after having committed wire fraud, conspiracy, money laundering, and some 20 other federal charges. The House Ethics Committee substantiated most of these counts in addition to others but failed to recommend expulsion a month ago. The new GOP Speaker Mike Johnson yesterday commented that he had “real reservations” in expelling George Santos fearing it would set precedence – A precedence for the GOP to follow the rule of law or simply be abhorred by the level of criminality Representative Santos was able to get a seat on the Republican House. Many GOP Congressional members said they would wait for the Ethics Committee to come out with a full report. It has, and now they want to wait for him to be voted out by his constituents – His constituents have addressed Congress to put him out so they can vote someone else in. Why can’t they recall him I don’t know if it is some complex New York election law issue preventing his district from doing so. In either case, the Republican Congress continues to embrace lies and power over justice and representation. Friday the Congressional House will hold a vote to expel Rep. Santos and that is truly up in the air since there is a three-quarter majority needed to expel him. In the meantime, Rep. Santos is attempting to introduce a resolution to oust Jamal Bowman who had “inadvertently’ (his words)  pulled the fire alarm during the Republican Speakership hearings a month ago – a distraction that many Republicans learned from Trump.
