Hurricane Hilary Targeting California Over The Weekend Threatening To Dump Heavy Rains

Hurricane Hilary, a Category 4 storm (130 – 156 mph) is well on its way into Baja Mexico/California and headed north. The storm’s current projected track will unleash a year’s worth of rain in areas of Central California, Nevada, and Arizona. Utah may even get a taste of stormy waters as well. The rain is most welcome across the country, but prolonged heavy rains will cause the saturated ground to flood. Los Angeles is concerned about some 46,000 homeless people and their safety throughout the stormy period. California is making emergency preparations for the unavoidable high surf and flash floods that will occur. State governments have taken the initiative to place rescue teams and highway crews to support road maintenance and stranded motorists.

Meanwhile, the Atlantic is observing 4 separate areas of storm development. At least one of the areas may trek into the Gulf of Mexico where the warm waters help to strengthen the storm activities as it hits landfall. The other areas of concern are in the Central Atlantic and remain to be explored as the storms develop over the next week.
