A shooting on Friday night April 30, 2023, in Cleveland, TX left five dead in the wake of a deadly shooting by a neighbor who was an illegal immigrant reportedly having been deported at least four times in the past. The shooting left a mother and her 8-year-old son, two women, and a young man dead after being shot by an AR-15 assault-style weapon. The FBI is involved in tracking down the criminal with no current leads. Governor Abbott started his condolences by providing a $50k reward but quickly alluded to referring to the victims as “… killed five illegal immigrants in a shooting …” Was it necessary to state the loss of life in those terms? To dehumanize them in such a manner? There was an 8-year-old boy killed! Nevertheless, he later had to soften his words once again as he did in the Uvalde massacre since one of the victims is being reported as a US citizen! Is his hatred of immigrants so depraved that even in death he must have the last say so? Once again he blames being given bad information. The Governor has a large staff and professional resources to research, validate, and confirm these matters without error. Is his true administrative agenda to promote disparagement and fear of immigrants whether legal or illegal? This brings to question the lack of a definitive resolution to the Uvalde massacre. He initially stated on television that DPS and officers charged the shooter at their own risk. That was never true. It took some 70 minutes and kids inside the classroom calling 911 asking for help to include one of the dying teachers. Several months later the report came out and even then it was not definitive and no true accountability for the lack of intestinal fortitude at all levels or sincere sympathy from the Texas Governor. Was All that due to Governor Abbott’s presupposition that some of the kids at the school were reported to have been immigrants? Again dehumanizing them – kids – keep that in mind! The Cleveland, TX shooter had an assault-style weapon. An illegal immigrant with such a weapon. Was it bought through a private sale, at a gun show, or yes maybe even the black market? Would not gun control legislation on private sales or gun shows maybe have limited the possibilities of these senseless deaths? The gun control laws that Governor Abbott is so much against! I believe that some legislation could have played a role in limiting these recent mass shootings in Texas where the wild west is still being played out in slo-mo 19th century!
