Gov. Abbott Rejects Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Texas Colleges

Gov. Abbott has signed the removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in all Texas schools. Abolishing the programs will now make it just that much harder for students of color and different cultures to integrate into society and receive the appropriate education. Students depend on the DEI programs to help them integrate at various levels in their educational endeavors.  Take for example life counseling can be one of those benefits that helps them through their educational studies and while away from home. As it is, young people from all races and ethnic backgrounds today are having a hard time in life. Suicides are up substantially. Having an office that provides these one-on-one assistance sessions are invaluable. Aiding with educational studies communicated through a different language can help mediate the language barrier and propel the student with more confidence.Horses Ass

It seems that Gov. Abbott (R-TX) is following Gov. DeSantis’s (R-Fl) steps to include shipping immigrants across the country that have shown to have paperwork originating from a Florida organization. State Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe claims the principles of DEI continue to exist even without the offices in place. Not true! He believes that it was a win for free speech (!) and the state’s “commitment to fostering true diversity and merit in higher education.” What period is he working from – 1890’s? I recall President Reagan claiming Affirmative Action programs were not needed under his watch! Many Fortune 100 companies said “No thanks” We’ll keep ours going because they are working. The bill prohibits any funding at all levels with reviews for each of the universities being conducted for violations every four years.

  • We all want our children to have a better life than what we had. College tuitions are high. And it seems the GOP at all levels purposely makes it more difficult to get that education we need for our young people in America. Republicans seem to want us to have a lack of educational success. They want a society where we fail to achieve and settle for mediocrity. This has been demonstrated many times over the last few decades when they refused to adopt a better educational strategy for anyone wanting to go to college. Simply it could have been achieved by lowering the interest rate for college loans. Think – your doctor doesn’t have to charge you an arm and leg to pay off his medical tuition loans. So, maybe we all get something out of it. I do not fully support President Biden’s approach either.
