Texas Gov. Abbott (R-TX) refuses to acknowledge the severity of the mass shootings in his state. Blaming the entire dilemma on “mental illness!” While this may be a part of the problem the fact there are no “Red Flag” laws in the state that fails to address the very same reasoning for placing blame totally on mental illness.
Gov. Abbott touts the fact the state has increased its budget for mental health services over the last 3 years, yet the state still ranks at the bottom for mental health services.
In addition, the most recent mass shooting at the outlet mall in Allen, TX has failed to yield prompt and confident reporting by law enforcement officials. Recently, they were demeaning and contradicting one of the heroes involved in the shooting, a veteran and 2nd Amendment supporter that had given aid to some of the shooting victims. The police have refuted his account yet they have not disclosed the full story on their behalf.
The Uvalde mass school shooting will have its anniversary on May 24, 2023. Where 19 children between the ages of 8-11 were killed or bled to death while waiting to be rescued. Also, killed were two teachers beloved by the community with one of them having her last words with her husband. There were noted two kids that also called 911 asking for help but that didn’t come until over an hour later. There were a reported 400 law enforcement officials at the scene and it took 77 minutes from the time of the first round to the time someone decided to take action! A comprehensive report remains to be seen. Gov. Abbott soon after the shooting commented on the bravery of his officers risking life and limb but was to later retract those words and place the blame on his staff. The very same happened with the mass shooting that killed 5 immigrants north of Houston – he had to retract his comments.
- Seems like Gov. Abbott is mostly driven by how Texas politics looks!
