Gov. Abbott (R-TX) has once again shown his bitter side towards Hispanics. He signed into law HB 2127 which affected city ordinances that allow for water breaks every four hours for construction workers! The bill is to take effect in September 2023. You would think he has more legislative priorities than to be so petty. Though there is a method to his madness. It is reported that 6 of 10 construction workers in Texas are Hispanic. One more way to denigrate Hispanics in the state. And there is that possibility that he is big business pockets by reducing these breaks and a way to provide cover to businesses that demand more from their construction workers and do not want to answer to a lawsuit when one of them dies due to working out in the sweltering heat.
Shortly after he signed the bill there was a reported death when a utility lineman reportedly died from heat exhaustion. Texas since last week has been experiencing extreme high temperatures averaging 103 degrees with the heat index as high as 110 degrees. And he signs a bill rescinding city ordinances that do provide some kind of humane working environment.
- This is just ridiculous and only demonstrates his hate towards Hispanics or how deep he is in big business pockets. I hear his wife is Hispanic – I wonder what makes her different! I suffered from heat exhaustion from trekking through the Panama jungle in 1981. I have never been able to get over that. My body just overheats, and I must head somewhere out of the heat otherwise I do get dizzy to the point of fainting.
