Former President Trump has been charged with 7 Federal counts. That was released by him through his social media site “Truth Social.” He is supposed to appear at the Miami Federal Court on the 13th of June 2023. At least one of the charges is thought to be “conspiracy.” Let’s be frank, the Special Counsel would not be bringing these charges if there was no solid evidence behind them especially when considering the defendant is a former President.
He is not happy about the indictment referring to it as “election interference.” Speaker McCarthy tweeted “It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, …”
Let’s parse these two statements for a moment. When Trump was campaigning in 2016 Obama refused to seek an investigation on him based on the fact the public would see this as “election interference.” Trump became President. While in office E. J. Caroll could not take him to court as well as many other assaulted women because he was President. Then when he wasn’t in office the argument was that the statute of limitations near 7 years was closing that window.
McCarthy’s tweet is untrue and reckless. President Biden is not the one charging Trump or behind the charges. Many witnesses have been interviewed regarding the classified documents case. Trump dug his own grave when he refused to hand over the classified documents, lied about having turned over all of them, conducted rehearsals of moving boxes containing the classified documents, and then recorded as having said he had a classified document on an Iran Invasion plan. President Biden is not the one charging Trump. Remember our government has three branches the Executive, Legislature, and Judicial and they act independently. During the Trump administration, he fired the FBI Director Comey and then Deputy Director McCabe. Pushed the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Jeffrey Rosen, and William Barr out. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller all ended their careers when they did not do Trump’s bidding. That was he wanted the AG and Deputy AG to do his agenda. Former VP Pence last night talked about how ill advise and divisive it would be to indict Trump. This is while he was saying that “no man is above the law!” How the world would view this as a negative?
I differ in VP Pence’s position on the indictment and the world view. While he referred to the US as “the emblem of democracy” he falls short of that same view as the world watching this democracy keeping the rule of law even when it is a high profile individual and in this case the former President Trump. Failure to indict Trump would only embolden dictators like Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Bashar al-Assad to name a few. Third-world dictators would even strengthen their hands on any type of brutality used against their people.
Failure to follow up and hold Trump responsible for these violations among all the reporting that has been conducted would be a travesty in judicial justice. Trump’s willingness to stand above the law and continue to subvert and criticize his rivals and snub the rule of law is well known. The world can then see that Americans sincerely are true to their word regarding democratic values and the rule of law.
- For those offended by the indictment, think of “equal rights under the law.” That applies to you as well. Would you have gotten away with so much? Inciting to riot and stop the verification of the electorate on January 6, 2021. Taking classified documents for his own personal use. And, do not fall for the story that he can “think of it and declassify a document!” There is a whole process for declassification and many entities are involved. Recently an Air Force Officer Robert L. Birchum was sentenced to 36 months in jail for possessing classified documents. There weren’t any Republicans coming to his defense on that matter. A classified document is a classified document no matter what!
